Edgar Tezak

24.02.2022 - 18.04.2022

The Austrian painter, graphic artist and ceramist Edgar Tezak (born 1949 in Graz, lives and works in  Stoob/Burgenland) is showing a large, site-specific work on paper for the first time in winter 2021/22 at the tresor of the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien. Project to Infinity is a 60-meter-long, expansive image program, a personal as well as universal iconography that draws from religion, mythology, and contemporary history and short-circuits yesterday with today and tomorrow.

The human and the animal body are always in the center, everything is connected and happens simultaneously. The long years that the artist lived in the United States and India influenced his view of things and the claim he makes in his art, which always acts as a medium of knowledge. "We want to understand, want to create harmony with thought, create justice. But not everyone sees the same, many often just the opposite. On this basis I have located my story. Freely I can put my hand on the paper and capture it along my lines of desire, the infinite limitedness with ocher, chalk, charcoal or with raindrops, floral greetings, bird noise, with cosmic vermilion sparks or baked earth for the eye," says Tezak. In telling stories and visually articulating dreams and feelings, Edgar Tezak has been unflinchingly pursuing a path all his own since the 1970s.

The exhibition is accompanied by an artist's book published by Verlag für moderne Kunst.
