Kunstforum Wien is seeking practicing artists working in all forms of performance to participate in Marina Abramović retrospective in Vienna, opening in October 2025.

 

As part of the show, artists will re-perform a selection of original performances by Marina Abramović solo and in collaboration with Ulay during the full length of the show from October 2025 until January 2026. The show will include the following works:

  • Imponderabilia; Ulay/Marina Abramović, 1977

  • Luminosity; Marina Abramović, 1997

  • Nude with Skeleton; Marina Abramović, 2002

  • Art must be beautiful/Artist must be beautiful; Marina Abramović, 1975

     

Applicants should have an interest in durational performance as well as be comfortable interacting with the public. The role is physically demanding and requires nudity; applicants should feel comfortable being nude in the gallery space of Kunstforum. This role also asks performers to facilitate in the galleries in support of the reperformance program.

 

All selected applicants will be required to take part in the Cleaning the House residential workshop in September 2025, for which performers will be remunerated. During the workshop, participants will be asked to fast and refrain from speaking to bring the body and mind to a quiet state. Participants will be guided through a series of long durational exercises to improve focus, stamina, and concentration. The workshop will be led by experienced facilitators trained in the Abramović Method.

 

PROFILE

  • practicing artist willing to reperform historical works by Marina Abramović / Ulay, which require endurance, nudity, and interaction with the public

  • based in Vienna

  • over 18 years of age

  • available from September 2025 until January 2026

 

TERMS

  • the rate of pay is €35 per hour brutto (fixed-term contract)

  • the work consists partly of reperforming, partly of facilitating other reperformances

  • regular breaks are included

  • commitment required: min. 3 days per week (4 – 6 hours a day, ca. 15 hours a week, shifts can take place on weekends and holidays, according to museum opening hours)
