My Private Passion - The Hubert Looser Collection
26.04.2012 - 15.07.2012
The Fondation Hubert Looser is one of the foremost private collections of modern and contemporary art in the region of Switzerland, placing its main focus on Abstract Expressionism, Minimal Art and Arte Povera.
The collection is now leaving its private ambience en gros for the first time and is being presented in the context of a museum. It boasts of superlative work groups, including those of Willem de Kooning, John Chamberlain, Cy Twombly, David Smith, Agnes Martin, also Giuseppe Penone. Added to these are individual works by Gorky, Giacometti, Picasso and Kiefer. An exciting aspect within the collection structure is the intensive and multi-layered communication of the works with one another, quite apart from the purely art historical interest of its evolutionary reception. This generates a multitude of dialogues, constellations and elective affinities between painting, sculpture, and graphics, an aspect that will be greatly accentuated in the exhibition rooms, giving rise to strands of significance in the painterly gesture, the dominance of the pure line, the process-based element inherent in material, also the minimal spiritual and mythical-archaic qualities in nature.
